IF I FORGET YOU,
I WILL LOVE YOU AGAIN
In this photobook I worked again with my family archives but this time focusing on my parents’ relationship. I revisited the locations where these pictures were taken, retracing my parents' life journey starting from their hometown, Preveza, Greece, and finally reaching the neighborhood where they live in Athens. During this trip, I photographed the places I saw with my Polaroid camera. The images I created were blurred, over-exposed, and contained errors, resembling faded memories.
This alternative photo album incorporates polaroids, cyanotypes and some original family photographs. The book discusses the notion of lethe and how memories can be obscured in order to ease pain. Although the pictures are deeply connected to my family history, the viewers are invited to an introspect and dialogue with their own memory. The narrative of the book was inspired by the Greek myth of Arni, the water spring where the deceased drank water from before departing for the underworld of Hades to forget their loved ones on earth.
